June 2017 - THIS week's PICTURE

Tom at the Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona, Arizona: photo by Malcolm Aslett

First pass with a bunch of photos from the southerly aspect of the curving wall around the Chapel of the Holy Cross outside of Sedona.

I can't tell you how bored this boy was. A magnificent landscape, a daring piece of architecture, a blue sky that the Electric Light Orchestra

would probably have written a song about. But what it didn't have was a wifi connection. Kids nowadays. Just like when we were kids, only taller.

As it stands I like the basic composition, with the curving line of the wall, the boy sitting at some 'golden ratio' type point and a moderate sized

wedge of blue sky offsetting the direction of his view like a piece of aged Stilton. The plan is to remove some of the extraneous figures.

That woman to the right is mysterious enough a Magritte figure to keep as is one of the figures to the top left. The awkward part is what to do with that

transition of hills that moves from a nice reddy hue to a washed out blue and the lack of a decent exposure of the boy with sufficient detail.

I will have to see what works. Update next week.
