May 2011 - THIS week's PICTURE

Lucy and Tom on the Rocks , Blue Ridge Mountains, VA: photo by Malcolm Aslett

Odd how simply tilting the angle of an image can make it more interesting. The tilting here however was more to do with the horizon dipping away to the right as I constructed the image. The scene is a striking spot on one of the many walks in the Blue Ridge with a fortuitous clutter of rocks piled up by geological accident for the entertainment of Sunday hikers. The photo painting fills were used to add to a centripital effect that evolved with the parts themselves. Even though the figures look as if they are far below the viewpoint they were actually a matter of two or three feet from the camera - such is the way a joiner deceives the eye by spreading its vision far and wide.
