May 2011 - THIS week's PICTURE

Skyline vista , Blue Ridge Mountains, VA: Joiner photograph by Malcolm Aslett

From the same set as last week, this one tackles the subject with a diminished human interest. I like those 19th Century Romantic paintings showing the grandeur of nature by Turner and Co. with a tiny figure stuck off to the side. This one uses the joiner technique to indicate that any picture of Nature is an unfinished canvas. Well, that and I couldn't come up with another idea at the time. Stones are great. Every one a different shape but all with a sameness, working for the collective good. Put them next to a swathe of green hills and a blue sky pocked with clouds and it's enough to entertain the eye for a while.
