I make these images square probably because it reminds me of the images you get from a rather nice Hassleblad camera with the 2.25 inch square negative. There always seemed to be more detail and vavoom in a negative that size after 35mm film. Probably because there was.

This is a big photo and the joiner aspect is evident in the obvious 'perspective points' of the road to top right and the fence that you are looking down on in the foreground. The figure becomes quite small comparatively in this set up so keeping him central at least reminds a viewer that he is the point of the picture.

Shadowed areas can be problematic when incorporated next to sunny areas. The exposures are so different that tones and colours vary widely. This wasn't so bad thankfully because of the areas they happened in. The blue sky always varies widely and this sky was fluffed up to give an impression of continuity that really isn't there.

The actual fence is a straight line but had to be tamed for all the pieces to fit, so it curves into a question mark to wrap itself around the main focus of interest.
