Glowering sky over the Valley of the Temples, Sicily: Joiner photo by Malcolm Aslett

More shenanigans while I take some time to work on other things. The original joiner is below, of a temple near Agrigento in Sicily. It is a spectacular place and reminds me of one or two of the reasons why I love Italy so much. Someone give me a job out there, please.

As usual I extended the sky area. There is a quick way to get this kind of wierd sky in Photoshop. If you want to try it you use selection tools for only the sky region. With all the sky - clouds and all - carefully selected you go to Image, then select Adjustments and then choose Auto levels. It's as simple as that. I did a little more work on edges and colour tones but the major work is done with that easy 'fix'.

If you pay attention to the pillars you will see that they have been mucked about with. They are not consistently vertical in either photo and the thicknesses vary considerably. I increased the height as it appeared a little squat and I also enhanced the colours of the stone and increased the contrast once more.

Makes it all look a bit Ray Harryhausen if you've seen his films.
