NOVEMBER 2009 - THIS MONTH'S PICTURES
UVA: JEFFERSON'S HOME
THE ROTUNDA FROM THE LAWN photo by Malcolm Aslett
It's back to a more traditional approach for this month with a visit to Charlottesville's famous school.
It was designed by Thomas Jefferson, famed writer of the Declaration of Independance and the Rotunda building shown here (more or less) was based on Rome's domed Pantheon. SInce people have written to me in a puzzled frame of mind about just what a joiner photograph is I did this more in the manner of David Hockney. Several dozen photographs were used (I forget exactly how many. More than a hundred, clearly.) and placed over one another, giving that fractal effect so noticeable in the sky and pillars and producing the irregular points on the pillars. Being me I couldn't let it be completely untouched and used Photoshop to give a smoother passage to selected parts.
